Deputy -- Road Patrol The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office has openings for a full time Deputy -- Road Patrol. This position is in the bargaining unit and all wages and benefits are administered in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. The starting wage rate is $34.84 per hour. Candidates must be certified by OPOTA, patrol experience preferred but not necessary, have a working knowledge of criminal and traffic law, and must possess a valid Ohio drivers' license, with the ability to operate a county vehicle. Job includes: Patrolling as assigned area of the County for observation and maintenance of the safety and security of persons and property; Maintains and cares for Sheriff's cruiser when it is in own possession, reports malfunctions to the proper supervisor; Investigating complaints, crimes and accidents; Administering sobriety tests, writing traffic tickets, providing aid to motorists, directing traffic if/as needed; Arrests persons on the basis of warrant or as the circumstance may justify' Serving warrants, preparing reports/documentation and court-related requirements. Selected candidates must have: Knowledge of security and safety procedures and techniques, criminal and traffic investigation and techniques, state and federal regulations, policies and procedures related to law enforcement and public relations, Skill in operation of police equipment and operation of firearm, Ability to deal with multiple variables and determine specific course of action, ability to handle sensitive contacts, Ability to work independently and make decisions, ability to keep accurate and timely records and ability to demonstrate effective organizational skills. Employees will be required to work weekends, nights, work outside - exposed to weather and hazardous conditions, and may be subject to on-call.
