Overview

Upward Bound House (UBH) is dedicated to ending the cycle of intergenerational family homelessness. We compassionately provide a continuum of services ranging from crisis housing to permanent housing and homelessness prevention. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Accounts Payable

  • Enter and process vendor invoices through the Beanworks AP automation system.
  • Allocate expenses to appropriate departments, programs, and grants
  • Scan, upload, and file check payments in accordance with internal control procedures.

General Ledger

  • Record monthly rent activity using established rent ledger reports.
  • Allocate employee timesheets based on payroll data and program funding allocations.
  • Assist with journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end closing activities.

Donation and Deposit Recording

  • Record ACH deposits and contributions received via donation platforms
  • Coordinate with Development as needed to ensure proper coding and classification of donations.

Administrative & Other Support

  • Maintain accurate and organized accounting files (digital and physical) for audit readiness.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned by the Senior Accountant or CFO, including support with budget preparation, agency monitoring visits, desk reviews, audit support, and ad hoc financial analysis—all performed with adherence to deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, including internships or part-time roles.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and general comfort with financial systems.
  • Strong communication skills are essential for this role, both internally across departments

and externally with vendors and partners.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and resourcefulness in navigating ambiguity.
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate needs and take initiative.
  • The ideal candidate brings a sense of urgency, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset to

support cross-functional needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with GL or accounting software. Training on systems will be provided.
  • Exposure to nonprofit accounting principles or fund/grant allocation.
  • Interest in nonprofit sector financial operations.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • This position is based onsite at our Santa Monica office; not remote or hybrid work.
  • Standard office environment with frequent use of computers and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • May occasionally lift office supplies up to 15 pounds.
